It’s worth revisiting this video from a few years ago where Eric Schmidt talks about the Ice Cream Sandwich release of Android.

Ultimately applications vendors vendors are driven by volume, and volume is favoured by the open approach that Google is taking.

Whether you like ICS or not, and again I like it a great deal, you will want to develop for that platform, and perhaps even first.

His words merit repeating because, as we’ve seen over the past few years, app vendors are not driven by volume alone, but are rather driven by the ability to make money. As we’ve seen, iOS is where the money is being had.
